There are still people who play?! You have no idea how long I've been
looking.
I started playing creatures in 1998. I bought the first game (which
was also my first real PC game (aside from DOS games) , and I'm so
excited to have found this group! Is anyone from the old community
still around? I had a website for a bit called FREAKISH NORNS, and I
was on Spotlings Norn and Grendel paradise under the name DeathAngeL.

Does anyone remember NornGod? Ping? Steerpike? sdfjnsdjfnksj. GAH.
Sorry I'm just tickled pink to see people still playing. I'm playing
C2 at the moment. :3

Nah, sorry. xOtix drops in now and again (once or twice a year), but
there aren't that many people around, to be honest.

Yes. Well, the last two anyway. Ping has gone a long time and Steerpike
has passed the gates to the gardens of the ever growing carrots, and
cheese - so to say. That was years ago...

I remember the names Ping and NornGod. But now the main goal of this
group has turned into keeping JNCOBOY alive (and greeting the
occasional delurker in this group).

I still fire up my colonies (C1/2/3) every once in a while, but what I'd
really like to do is figure how I might set one/some/all of those games
on my laptop. It's a mac, and I've always had Windows versions, so it
may be beyond help.

Still, having it available on the computer I take to work would be
awesome, because waiting around for phones to ring gets a little boring.

Well, you could try to get the Mac versions. C1/C2 should work in the
emulation mode, and I think the latest version of C3 should be fine with
your system. Hopefully.

Yeah, I have to admit I've been pretty lazy about investigating the mac

I much prefer when the accountant needs me to do stuff, but answering
phones is the default task I have when nobody needs help.

Hey, it's a volunteer office job for my church. What can I say?

I have creatures village (based on C3 AFAIK) running under Snow
Leopard. I think I only needed to install Rosetta for it to run.

You might have problems running Mac OS 9 versions on 10.6. This because
I understand that 10.6 only runs Intel processor code. If you have a
universal binary for C1/C2, you might be lucky.

Have you tried bootcamp with Windows XP? It will free some space for a
windows partition, which you can then boot from using the [option] key
at boot time.

iirc, of course. I only read the manuals for bootcamp. I have no 'in
the field' experience with it.

nerves, I might end up shouting at someone innocent (or feel the urge
to do so).

The worst is when I'm asked to call people. I just don't like the
mystery of who's going to be on the other side, calling or picking up.

Fortunately the nature of the job isn't "help desk" of any sort, so
dealing with cranky yet dim people isn't really a danger.

Indeed, but having the assumption that people are going to be cranky
and dim doesn't really help make me like the phone any more.

I never answer phone callers with a caller ID I do not recognize. The
ones I do recognize get VIP treatment!

My experience is that after half a year or so, people will give up
trying to call you, and you will only be called by people you like and
who have caller ID enabled :-)

I mean, I have e-mail and a snail mail address too! Why does everybody
insist on calling me? Like you I *hate* phone conversations by/with
strangers.
